The 7 main routes for profiting from a new idea

I get asked about routes to market all the time. Here’s a simple diagram that shows the main 6 options and a rough cost/benefit analysis.

Often the best plan is a blended route. But note:

Retailers won’t like you selling on Amazon.
Distributors might not want you selling direct.

It is possible to license in foreign territories that are on the other side of the world; use distributors for European countries and the US and sell direct and through retailers in the UK. Just an example but gives you an idea of how you can build a ‘To Market’ strategy that uses multiple routes.
