Trivae

Multi-function kitchen trivet designed to work as three tools.

Trivae is a kitchen trivet that also works as a strainer and a serving stand, designed for a US start-up founded by three friends. The idea came from a shared frustration: nowhere practical to put a hot pan lid while cooking. D2M's kitchen product development team worked with the founders remotely to take the concept from an early sketch through to a manufactured product.

The Story

The brief carried an obvious risk: a product built to do three jobs can easily end up doing none of them well. D2M's aim throughout was to avoid that compromise, ensuring the product performed properly in each of its modes rather than settling for adequate.

The result is a flip mechanism that switches the product between a trivet, strong enough to support heavy pots and pans, and a strainer for pasta and vegetables. A grab and lift design allows it to be picked up and moved without burning fingers, and the same form doubles as a serving stand. The finished product is made from food-grade silicone, heat-resistant to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, and is dishwasher safe.
