GoBag Backpack
Carry-on backpack with patented vacuum compression, launched on Kickstarter.
GOBag is a carry-on backpack designed around a patented vacuum compression system that reduces packed volume by up to 50%. The team behind it came to D2M mid-development to refine the design and prepare it for cost-effective volume production. D2M worked on the final prototypes, valve selection, material specification and compartment sizing.
The Story
The founders had spent two years developing the concept independently before bringing D2M in. The core idea was sound: a functional, convertible carry-on with enough storage intelligence to make it genuinely useful for travel and outdoor use. What the project needed at that point was manufacturing-focused design refinement and prototyping to a standard that could support production.
D2M resolved the vacuum compression mechanism, working with the team on the right valve and the material and structural decisions that affect how the system performs in use. The bag converts between backpack, duffel and shoulder configurations, and includes a detachable daypack with a laptop sleeve. Both the compression system and the air valve for the adjustable back panel are patented.
The Outcome
GOBag launched on Kickstarter and reached 663% of its funding goal, backed by nearly 2,500 people.
