Degono Coffee Press
Cafetiere redesigned to eliminate grounds, over-extraction and difficult cleanup.
Degono is a coffee press that addresses three specific problems with conventional cafetieres: grounds in the cup, continued extraction after brewing, and messy cleanup. D2M designed the product for a client from Ripon, Yorkshire, and it is manufactured in the UK.
The brief came from a pair of cafetiere users who wanted to keep the simplicity of the format but resolve the practical issues that come with it. The solution centred on a dual fine mesh filter system that traps coffee grounds between the two filters rather than allowing them to settle in the cup.
After brewing, the grounds can be removed immediately, stopping further extraction and preventing bitterness developing in the cup. The compressed grounds form a compact disc that lifts cleanly out and can be composted. D2M's senior team designed the system, which uses ABS plastic, borosilicate glass and stainless steel throughout. The product also works as a tea brewer, with different colour options to distinguish between the two uses.
