Sofa drink holder developed from concept to manufacture, now selling in the UK, EU and Japan.
CouchCoaster is a weighted silicone drink holder designed to sit on a sofa arm and keep a drink stable during use. Barry Freeder came to D2M with the concept and the product was developed through to a manufactured, market-ready solution.
The Story
Drinks on sofa arms tip. The brief was to design something that would hold a drink securely on a sofa arm, fit a range of vessel sizes, and be practical enough for daily use without damaging the upholstery.
D2M worked through concept development and prototyping to resolve the design. The final product uses a weighted silicone base that grips the sofa arm, an adjustable holder for cups, mugs, flasks and tumblers, and an integrated drip tray for minor spills.
The Outcome
CouchCoaster has sold over 800,000 units across the UK, EU and Japan, with more than 2,600 four-star or higher reviews on Amazon. The product and its sister item in the range now turn over more than £750,000 annually.
