Cone Safety Light

Warning light developed for road traffic cones.

The Road Cone Light is a warning light designed to attach to road traffic cones, developed for use by highway maintenance workers on motorways and roads. The brief called for a light that would fit securely across different cone sizes, provide a wide angle of illumination, and allow cones to remain stacked without the light needing to be removed. D2M developed the design from that brief.

The Story

Existing cone lights on the market were bulky, prone to falling off or being knocked out of place, and had to be removed individually before cones could be stacked, adding time and hassle for maintenance crews working on live roads. Most also lit in a single direction rather than providing visibility from all sides.

The brief set out clear requirements to solve these problems: a compact, waterproof casing that followed the profile of the cone to allow stacking without removal, a lens large enough to provide as close to 360-degree light output as possible, automatic activation when fitted to a cone, and a battery that could be replaced easily in the field. D2M developed the design around these requirements, working to meet the safety standards and lens regulations required for use on public roads.

No Outcome section, since nothing is confirmed. This is intentionally weighted more towards "the brief D2M worked from" than "what D2M built," since that's the only part I can state with confidence.
