Bark Pack
Hybrid dog travel bed and backpack, developed from concept to production for a pet accessories brand.
BarkPack is a backpack that unfolds into a dog bed, designed for owners who take their dogs on trips and need something practical for rest stops, travel and outdoor use. Bark Products came to D2M at the concept stage and the project ran through to a fully manufactured product.
The Story
The brief came from a straightforward problem. The founders wanted a portable, waterproof resting place for their dog that could be carried easily and used in a range of situations: public spaces, the car, walks, and travel. No single product on the market combined all of that in a form that worked well.
D2M joined at the beginning, working closely with the client to refine the styling, develop the technical features and select the right materials. Waterproofing and durability were central to the specification throughout.
The product was developed to include a fold-out plush bed, a removable messenger bag, an integrated seatbelt attachment, reflective detailing and multiple storage pockets. D2M produced full technical specifications and tech packs, sourced materials, engaged manufacturing partners for accurate costings and supported Bark Products through the first production run.
The Outcome
BarkPack launched through the brand's own website. The project took the concept from a personal observation about a gap in the market to a production-ready product with a complete manufacturing specification behind it.
