Ark Pushchair
One-handed fold pushchair built for city and countryside.
The Ark Pushchair is a one-handed fold pushchair designed for parents who want a stroller that works equally well in the city and on rougher outdoor terrain. The brief centred on convenience, comfort and safety across both environments. D2M worked with Ark through extensive prototyping and testing, in collaboration with manufacturing partners, to bring the design to production.
The Story
The carrycot was designed with ventilation panels and a removable temperature gauge to help regulate the environment for a newborn, alongside spring suspension for a smooth ride at that stage. As the child grows, honeycomb wheels provide two layers of shock absorption, with a puncture-proof construction designed to resist mud and stay easy to clean over years of use.
Textiles development was a significant part of the project, with materials researched and tested for being chemical-free, naturally breathable and hypoallergenic. D2M worked through multiple prototypes with Ark to refine these features and confirm their performance before moving into production.
The Outcome
The Ark Pushchair launched with John Lewis, gaining listings in 11 physical stores and on the John Lewis website. The product won silver for Best Pushchair and Travel System at the Nursery Online Awards 2020, and bronze for Best Pushchair Design at the Junior Design Awards 2020/21.
