Air Motion is a hairbrush built around a suspension mechanism that allows the head to flex on contact, reducing drag and breakage during brushing. Grange Snell came to D2M with the concept already formed but a prototype that had fallen short. D2M took the design from that point through to a manufacturable, market-ready product.
The Story
Grange had developed an initial prototype through a Chinese manufacturer but was not satisfied with what had been produced. The core idea, a brush head that absorbs the resistance of the hair rather than forcing through it, was sound. The execution was not.
D2M worked through the design from the beginning, exploring how the suspension mechanism could function reliably and be manufactured consistently. Concept development involved sketching and CAD to refine both the form and the mechanical behaviour of the brush head. Material selection and bristle moulding were addressed carefully, as both had a direct bearing on how the product performed in use.
D2M also secured a funding grant to support the project and worked alongside an IP specialist to protect the design. UK retail contacts were used to support the initial route to market.
