Suncream applicator that lets children protect themselves.
The MyAmigo Roller is a character-based suncream applicator designed to help children apply their own sun protection. MyAmigo came to D2M to develop a product that would work for children with sensory sensitivities and stand up to everyday use.
The Story
The brief was shaped around how children actually behave. A suncream applicator aimed at young users, some with sensory sensitivities, has to make the process easy and unintimidating, while surviving the handling a children's product receives. Development drew on input from parents, children and specialists in sensory challenges to get that balance right.
D2M built and tested early prototypes for ergonomics and ease of use, engaging manufacturers early so the design stayed viable to produce at a sensible price. The engineering work focused on making the roller apply cream cleanly, resist leaks and hold up to rough use. User trials fed into several rounds of refinement before the design was finalised. The final product is moulded in recycled plastic, with a detachable nose for application, a removable tail for refills up to 90ml, and a carabiner clip for carrying.
The Outcome
The MyAmigo Roller passed the safety testing required for children's products and is certified for ages three and up. It reached the market available to pre-order and purchase on the brand's own website.
