We are D2M, a product design consultancy based in Cheltenham, working with startups and SMEs across a wide range of sectors. From first concept through to manufacture, we bring senior-led design expertise to every stage of the product journey.
Who we are
D2M is a product design consultancy with fifteen years of experience across a wide range of sectors. We work with entrepreneurs, startups and SMEs at every stage of the product journey, whether that's defining something entirely new, refining a product already underway, or developing a second generation of something already on the market.
Every project is led personally from concept through to production, by the same person managing both the design and its progress. Nothing gets handed between departments along the way, which means fewer details get lost and fewer surprises turn up late.
We centre every project around commercial viability. Cost, manufacturability and risk are considered from day one, so decisions are grounded in what will actually work, not just what looks good on a render
How we do it
Every project starts with the practical realities: what something will cost, what it takes to manufacture, and what could go wrong. That's not the most exciting place to begin, but it's the only honest one, and it's what gives a product a real chance once it moves past the drawing board.
From there, we explore multiple concept directions before settling on one, considering form, function, usability and manufacturability together rather than chasing aesthetics in isolation. Once a direction is chosen, the design is refined progressively, stage by stage, with each one building on the last until it reaches the standard required for manufacture.
We stay involved as far as a project needs us to, through prototyping, sourcing, and production, so the people who understood the product at the start are still there to see it made properly
The team
D2M is built around a core studio team, supported by a trusted network of designers and engineers we bring in as projects demand. That range means we can take on real complexity without losing the thing that matters most, every person still works directly on the projects they're named against.
International experience runs through the team. Our designers have lived and worked across different continents, and that breadth of perspective shows up in how a brief actually gets read, not just in how it gets talked about.
