How to create a winning presentation to license your idea
Start-Ups make this mistake all the time. They write a presentation about their great new idea (for a potential investor, buyer or prospective licensor) and they start talking about the details of how it works. Don’t do this!
Start your presentation with how this can benefit the other party. For example:
“We have a new product that your customers will love and our research says they will pay a premium for its features. It’s high margin and fits well in your current product range.”
Then you have their attention. Then you can explain your new wonderful idea. Then finally, critically, end your presentation repeating the benefit to them.
The middle part should build credibility but should be concise and to the point. They can always ask for more details if they are genuinely interested. Watch the video below for a lot more detail!
