How to start new bag product production

The first thing you will need to do to begin manufacturing new bag products, is to choose a factory that can produce your bag product in the most cost-effective way.

At D2M we have previously worked with several manufacturers, both inside the UK and abroad so we can help you find the best partnership for your project, taking your needs and budget into account.

Bag products production in the UK

Manufacturing new bag products in the UK offers some advantages like easier communications with the factory in order to negotiate the production terms. If you want to make sure that the company will comply with your standards, researching it is also easier.

Nonetheless, producing new bag products in the UK can be more expensive and it is important that you know that some products, like textile-based products or consumer electronics are not manufactured in the UK at all.

Manufacturing bag product in the Far East

A viable solution to producing bag products is to choose a factory located abroad. There are several factors that you need to consider with this option, such as the duty rates, shipping costs and the added difficulty of the language barrier. However, you will probably be able to get a cheaper production price manufacturing bag products abroad.

It is an interesting option to hire a sourcing agent if you choose to manufacture your bag product in the Far East. A sourcing agent is middle man in charge of negotiating with the factory in your name. You can learn more about manufacturing outside the UK and sourcing agents just by clicking here.

Creating samples of your new bag product

A sample is a unit of the new bag product that the factory creates before you actually place the production order. You should note that sampling and prototyping are two different things. The prototype allows you test if the product works while creating samples helps you test if the factory will be a good fit.

Ordering samples of your product will allow you to check the quality of the materials and other aspects of the product and modify the production specifications. It is likely that you will be charged a small amount for the samples but identifying the problems now will save you a lot of money and troubles later on.

If your bag product is made of metal or plastic you might need to create specific mould tools before asking for the samples. It might cost some extra money but think of it as a necessary expense. Meanwhile if your bag product is textile-based, sampling will allow you to change aspects of the product such as the stitching technique, the colours or the quality of the fabrics.

At the end of the sampling process you will get what it is commonly called a “gold sample”. This is the sample against which every unit of the product will be measured so it needs to be checked to the minimum detail.
