Innovative Approach to Sun Protection for Children
In the quest to support children’s independence while addressing their unique sensory needs, MyAmigo introduced the MyAmigo Roller—a character-based suncream applicator. The Story
Recognising a gap in the market for child-friendly, sensory-appropriate sun protection solutions, MyAmigo embarked on developing a product that would address these needs while empowering children. The development process was highly collaborative, involving feedback from parents, children, and specialists in sensory challenges. D2M’s senior designer, Sarah, immersed herself in the project utilising her huge experience of toy design and development working for big brands such as Kids2.
Initial prototypes were crafted and tested for ergonomics and ease of use. Manufacturers were engaged early in the process, ensuring that the design was not only effective but also manufacturable at a cost-effective price point.
The engineering phase tackled significant challenges, such as ensuring the roller worked effectively in any orientation, didn’t leak, and was durable enough for the rough-and-tumble of children’s use. User trials were integral, leading to several refinements based on real-world testing before finalising the design for production.
