The Story
The Ascend VR headset by MVR Global is designed to address a significant gap in the current VR gaming market. While most VR systems focus on new and bespoke mini-games, they often neglect the rich history of previously released games that form the foundation of many gamers’ favourite memories. Sachin, Sachin, and Koonal, the team behind MVR Global, recognised the value of nostalgia in gaming and sought to create a VR experience that allows players to relive their beloved older games from an entirely new, immersive perspective.
The development of the Ascend VR headset involved overcoming several technical challenges. To ensure compatibility with games not originally designed for VR, the team needed to implement both 2D and 3D lens solutions for smartphone screen mirroring technology. Additionally, they collaborated with CircuitWorx, a UK-based electronics development firm, to create a unique system that translates gyroscopically measured head-movement into traditional control inputs that any game, past or present, can interpret.
The hard work paid off as MVR Global successfully developed working prototypes of the headset, electronics, and controllers. Their innovative approach was showcased at EGX, the UK’s largest video games expo, where the Ascend VR headset was exhibited alongside industry giants. This exposure has generated significant momentum as MVR prepares to launch their crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.
