The Story
The inspiration behind Magnetips stemmed from a common frustration: traditional coloring pens often contribute to desk clutter and waste once they are finished. Typica aimed to design a solution that was not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally sustainable. This led to the creation of Magnetips, a set of refillable pens equipped with powerful Neodymium magnets that allow the pens to stick to each other or any metal surface, transforming them into a versatile and interactive desktop centerpiece.
D2M’s design process involved meticulous planning and refinement. Using CAD software, we developed a detailed design focusing on functionality, comfort, and simplicity. We produced prototypes to ensure the pens met high standards of quality and performance. The final product featured a wide ergonomic hex shape for comfortable use, water-based ink for health and environmental benefits, and a durable polypropylene body.
To add an element of playfulness and practicality, each pen was embedded with Neodymium magnets. This innovation allowed the pens to be used in new, creative ways beyond just writing and coloring. Our team also ensured safety by incorporating air-flow vents, making the pens child-friendly.
